How do I know about Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism? Part 1

I was born a Buddhist. My parents prayed to Buddha. Every day I saw my parents using joss sticks and pray to Buddha.

The first time I knew more about Buddhism was when my brother joined a Buddhist temple. He talked a little about Buddhism and the only thing I can remembered was that he said that Buddhism is a way of life. I just did not understand what this meant but years later after taking up Nichiren Buddhism I came to understand that Buddhism faith equals to daily life.

I just followed what my parents did and when they asked me burned joss sticks I just followed. I also sometimes followed my mother to the temple to pray.

My parents did not explained the purposes and values of the religion.

After school I went to work as an article clerk in an audit firm. This was where I meet my future wife. We dated for some years and it was time to meet her parents. I went to her house and was introduced to her parents.

Her parents were Toaist and pray to some Chinese gods.

A year later my girl friend's parent took up Nichiren Buddhism. A day when I visited my future mother in law, I was 'surprise' to see the Butsudan in her house. Just wondering what was it?

My future mother in law just gave me a beads and a small booklet and asked me to chant the phase " Nam myoho renge kyo." She said it is very effective and that if I had any problems this would solve them.

I just felt weird and not wanting to offend her I just accepted it.

This is the first time I really known about Nichiren Buddhism.
