What transcend out of opposition and obstacles?

Without opposition there is no growth. It is hard to argue with that logic. A state in which we are free from problems or constraints is not happiness. Happiness is transcending all opposition and obstacles and continuing to grow.

Chanting daimoku is the same as reading the Lotus Sutra

The heart of the Lotus Sutra is its title, or the daimoku, of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. Truly, if you chant this in the morning and evening, you are correctly reading the entire Lotus Sutra. Chanting daimoku twice is the same as reading the entire sutra twice, one hundred daimoku equal one hundred readings of the sutra, and a thousand daimoku, a thousand readings of the sutra. Thus, if you ceaselessly chant daimoku, you will be continually reading the Lotus Sutra. 29/3

As for myself, I read the Lotus Sutra without having to remember to, and practice it even when I do not read its words aloud. 16/1

The joy of chanting daimoku

Therefore, when you chant the daimoku of this sutra, you should be aware that it is a more joyful thing than for one who was born blind to gain sight and see one's father and mother, and a rarer thing than for a man who has been seized by a powerful enemy to be released and reunited with his wife and children.

A change in public opinion results in change in society

Leo Tolstoy concluded that the only way to bring about a fundamental change in society is to realize a change in public opinion, a change in people's minds. Then how can we change public opinion? Tolstoy asserted: "It is only necessary for people to say what they really think or at least to refrain from saying what they do not think." It is vital, in other words, not to be swayed by others' opinions or past ways of thinking or doing. Instead each of us must become wise, possessing our own firm convictions. 23/12

Infinite hope resides in the SGI

Faith means infinite hope, and infinite hope resides in the SGI. As long as your faith is sincere, infinite glory, boundless good fortune and endless victory will unfold before you. You will never find yourselves at a dead end. 9/12

Come on obstacles! I've been expecting you! This is the chance that I've been waiting for

Whether we regard difficulties in life as misfortunes or whether we view them as good fortune depends entirely on how much we have forged our inner determination. It all depends on our attitude or inner state of life. With a dauntless spirit, we can lead a cheerful and thoroughly enjoyable life. We can develop a "self" of such fortitude that we can look forward to life's trials and tribulations with a sense of profound elation and joy: "Come on obstacles! I've been expecting you! This is the chance that I've been waiting for!" 27/10

The Gohonzon encompasses the entire universe

The Gohonzon encompasses the entire universe. Therefore, we who believe in and chant daimoku to the Gohonzon can live out our lives with the greatest serenity and composure. Please be confident that through faith in the Mystic Law we can definitely lead a wonderful and unsurpassed existence.

What will the future be like? No one knows the answer to that question. All we know is that the effects that will appear in the future are all contained in the causes that are made in the present. The important thing, therefore, is that we stand up and take action to achieve great objectives without allowing ourselves to be distracted or discouraged by immediate difficulties. 7/10

With impassioned words, we need to resolutely attack abuses of power that cause people suffering

The powerful may appear great, but in reality they are not. Greatest of all are the ordinary people. If those in power lead lives of idle luxury it is because the people are silent. We have to speak out. With impassioned words, we need to resolutely attack abuses of power that cause people suffering. This is fighting on the side of justice. It is wrong to remain silent when confronted with injustice. Doing so is tantamount to supporting and condoning evil.

Benefits of practice gongyo and chant daimoku

When we practice gongyo and chant daimoku before the Gohonzon, the good and evil capacities of our lives begin to function as the exalted form of fundamental existence. Lives that are full of the pain of Hell, lives that are in the state of Hunger, lives warped by the state of Anger—such lives too begin to move in the direction of creating their own personal happiness and value. Lives being pulled toward misfortune and unhappiness are redirected and pulled in the opposite direction, toward good, when they make the Mystic Law their base. 24/3

My experience

Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism was introduced to my by my mother in law some twenty years ago. I was a part time buddhist then, By part time I meant chant when got mood. On and off I will chant when I encountered any problem.

My first test of the faith was when my wife conceived my second son. When the new of my wife was pregnant with my second son we were very happy.

The gynecologist when my wife was conceived with my first son was Dr McCoy. The doctor was about sixty years then. My wife and I had decided to chan doctor as we felt that Dr McCoy was old and may not be good for out expecting second child and so we changed to a younger doctor.

So there we were happily visting the young doctor for about two months. On the second month the doctor did a scan on the womb and there was still no sign of heart beat on the feotus. One week later we went to see the doctor again and the doctor still said that there is no new development and suggested to do a D & C on my wife and there was still no heart beat.

We panic and did not know what to do and so we chanted daimoku for quite some time. After chanting we decided to seek a second opinion and went back to Dr McCoy. McCoy said since my wife was pregnant any suggested we just leave the womb alone and waite for another few months before any D & C is needed.

We chanted daimoku everyday and on the visit to Dr McCoy on the third month the scan showed sign of heart beat. We were very happy.

From the third month to the seventh month my wife bleeded for a number of times. Every time when my wife go to work after a few days in office, she bled and went to see the doctor and the doctor will give her two weeks MC. This happened until the seven months. The numbers of MC day taken was about more than 100 days.

We were persistent and continued to chant daimoku. Miracle happened on the eight month and my wife seemed okay. She can go to work everday until the day my second son was born.
The doctor looked surprise and was very happy with the progress of my wife.

Thru chant we had the good fortune of meeting a good doctor. Had we listen to the first doctor we will not have our second son. My son is now in form three. He is always in the top five position in the class and had seven As in UPSR.
